Vauxhall has revealed the first pictures of the new Corsa GSE, as the brand makes its return to the hot hatch segment. The new high-performance variant of Britain’s best-selling small car takes the sporty GSi genes of the Nova and first Corsa generation into the future.
The most powerful production Corsa of all time will be released this year and will celebrate its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. This follows the launch of the Mokka GSE, the first of a new generation of high-performance, fully electric Vauxhall models. 2026 also marks Vauxhall’s return to motorsport in the ADAC GSE Rally Cup with young British driver Ioan Lloyd piloting the Mokka GSE Rally, which shares key components with the road-going Mokka GSE. Meanwhile, the spectacular Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept car, revealed last year, looks ahead to future GSE models.

Small car, exhilarating performance
With the new Corsa GSE, Vauxhall returns to the hot hatch market for the first time since 2018 and charges it with even more excitement, performance, and all-electric driving pleasure.
Vauxhall has already shown that battery-electric peak performance isn’t just reserved for customers in the luxury segment with the introduction of the Mokka GSE. Joining the GSE range, the new Corsa GSE makes the same statement with its performance figures. With 281PS (207kW), 345 Nm of torque, and a kerb weight of just 1,554kg, the new model will offer just as much electric power and performance as the rally-inspired Mokka GSE. With a 0-62mph time of just 5.5 seconds, the high-performance Corsa will be the fastest accelerating Vauxhall production model on sale. It reaches a top speed of 112mph.
New Corsa GSE drivers can choose from three different driving modes: In ‘Sport’ mode, the car is tuned for pure performance and calls up full power with its special racetrack-optimised calibration. In ‘Normal’ mode, it delivers 231PS (170kW), and in ‘Eco’ all settings are reduced for the greatest possible efficiency; here, the top speed is 93mph. The new Corsa GSE stores its energy in a 54kWh lithium-ion battery (51kWh usable capacity). To ensure the Corsa GSE maintains peak performance, the engineers have also adapted the battery temperature management system.
Sophisticated technology also contributes to the exceptional performance, handling stability, and direct feedback; the Corsa GSE has front-wheel drive with a Torsen® multi-plate limited-slip differential and a lowered sports chassis with specifically designed axles, stabilisers, and hydraulic shock absorbers. GSE-optimised steering and pedal tuning underlines the highly dynamic driving experience, while four-piston performance brakes ensure immediate deceleration from high speeds.
A confident and dynamic design
The new Corsa GSE confidently displays its performance. While the well-known variants of the current Corsa generation already have a dynamic design, the electric hot hatch also visually emphasises its high-performance claim with the GSE-specific front bumper immediately catching the eye. Just like the rear, it is even sharper than any other variant. This is ensured, among other things, by visual air intakes and the black trim in the lower part of the vehicle and on the wide wheel arches, which contrasts with the contour white paintwork. The black roof and the black rear spoiler reinforce this effect.
With sporty three-spoke 18-inch alloys and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 215/40 R18 tyres, the new Corsa GSE boasts an uncompromising stance. Under the striking wheels, the Alcon® brake callipers, with clearly visible GSE lettering, also highlight the model’s performance, further underlined by the specific GSE lettering on the sides of the vehicle.
Corsa GSE interior: Modern interpretation of the classic Vauxhall hot hatch style
The bold GSE design is also reflected in the interior. The driver and front passenger sit on performance seats with integrated head restraints, upholstered with Alcantara® and cloth, with covers in a black, grey and yellow chequered pattern that nods back to the original Nova interior. Bright yellow seatbelts form a strong contrast. The sporty ambience is enhanced by the Alcantara®-covered steering wheel and door inserts, the armrests with yellow stitching, aluminium pedals, and the instrument panel with GSE logo against a silver-grey background.
Essential information is transmitted to the driver by the digital information display, which can be personalised, and a central 10-inch touchscreen. This contains GSE performance data, G-force display, acceleration values, battery management data, and much more. The displays were also designed in a typical GSE style.
In addition, the Corsa GSE is equipped with numerous technology and comfort features, ranging from heated seats and steering wheel to the 180-degree reversing camera and the Keyless Entry & Start system. It is also equipped with a bidirectional onboard charger (V2L), which can be used to supply external devices, such as e-bikes, with energy directly from the vehicle's battery.
Hot hatch heritage
The GSE brings the sporty genes of previous Vauxhall superminis back to life. Among the first Vauxhall hot hatches was the Nova GTE, launched in 1987 with a 100bhp 1.6-litre fuel-injected engine, a kerb weight of just 876kg and a 117mph top speed. Ventilated front discs, anti-roll bars, low-profile tyres, and a five-speed close-ratio gearbox completed the transformation of the humble Nova into a thrilling hot hatch. Following the Nova’s facelift in 1990, the GTE version was renamed GSi.
In 1993, the first Vauxhall Corsa was launched in Britain, and with it a GSi derivative. Powered by a 16-valve, double-overhead cam 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 105bhp at 6,000rpm, and with a kerb weight of 960kg, the GSi would sprint to 60mph in 9.2 seconds, and on to a 121mph top speed. A five-speed gearbox, firmer suspension, bigger brakes and wider tyres turned the little Corsa into one of the very first ‘pocket rockets’.
2007 saw the arrival of the Corsa VXR with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 189bhp, 192lb/ft of torque, and weighing 1,278kg. A track-focused Nürburgring Edition was launched in 2011, which saw power and torque increase to 202bhp and 206lb/ft as well as the addition of a mechanical multi-plate limited-slip differential. This was followed by the Clubsport Edition in 2014, featuring a Remus sports exhaust.
A second-generation Corsa VXR was launched in 2015, based on the Corsa E, weighing in at 1,293kg. Its powerful 1.6-litre turbocharged engine propelled it from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 143mph, while an overboost function provided an additional 26lb/ft of torque for five seconds. Customers could specify an optional Performance Pack, which added a limited-slip differential, 18-inch wheels, bigger brakes, and upgraded suspension.
