Building on a succession of record-breaking years, Renault UK grew yet more sales momentum during 2025, with its most notable acceleration coming in the all-important electric car market, where the Renault 5 E-Tech electric spearheaded its drive to meet all future targets and shake up the status quo of the UK’s EV market.
After bursting into the UK sales charts in April, R5 contributed to Renault’s overall passenger car sales rising to over 65,000 vehicles, representing an increase of 13% YonY and an enhanced market share of 3.2%, up 0.3 percentage points on 2024.
The multi-award-winning R5 also took the number one best-selling EV spot in retail for three months of the year as well as being the best-selling EV outright in the UK in October. These remarkable results also contributed to the all-electric supermini being the best-selling EV in retail for the final quarter of the year, plus the second most popular EV with retail car buyers during the year, despite not being on sale for the whole 12 months.
The arrival of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric, plus strong performances from Renault Scenic and Renault Megane, further contributed to Renault being the fourth EV brand in retail in 2025, having taken the number one spot in April, May and October.
Electric car sales were further accelerated by the availability of the Electric Car Grant (ECG), with Renault UK being one of the first brands to attract the subsidy, with all its pure-electric Renault passenger cars qualifying for the grant. Going into 2026, Renault has further enhanced its offering to maximise the available benefit to customers, introducing additional ‘+’ versions of the Renault 4, Renault 5 and Alpine A290 that all qualify for the highest £3,750 Electric Car Grant (ECG).
BEV volume more than doubles after award-winning R5 and R4 launches
In total, Renault UK registered 19,120 pure electric passenger cars in 2025 – an increase of 123% on 2024.
This equated to 29% of all its passenger car sales being pure electric, with the highest monthly passenger car EV mix during the year recorded at 49.3% in October, in part signifying growing momentum stimulated by the ECG.
In the future, full-year sales of R5 and R4 will further boost momentum, especially as £3,750 ECG-eligible ‘+’ versions are delivered. Further ahead, the arrival of the Twingo E-Tech electric – the brand’s new A-sector model with a targeted sub-£20k price, will add to the brand’s electrification momentum.
Total volume increases in a highly competitive market
After record growth of 22% in overall volume in 2024, and in the face of growing competition from new manufacturers and against a very challenging LCV market that declined 8% in 2025, Renault UK improved on last year’s sales performance to register a total of 87,921 passenger car and light commercial vehicles. As a result, Renault UK maintained its overall market share of 3.7%.
Passenger car and retail market share rise sharply
The increase in BEV registrations accelerated market share increases in both passenger car retail and passenger car overall market share. Passenger car registrations rose 13% and 0.3 percentage points over 2024 to 3.2%, while retail passenger car registrations rose 19% and 0.4 percentage points, up to 3.4%.
An enhanced focus on C- and D-segment models (Symbioz, Austral, Rafale, and Trafic Passenger) also reaped dividends, with sales of these vehicles up 16% - corresponding with the brand’s goal to have a greater penetration in these highly competitive segments.
Despite the incredibly challenging LCV market, Master sales rose 6% against 2024, underlining why it was judged ‘Best Large Van’ in seven separate industry awards in 2025. Renault also continues to occupy a top five position in the LCV manufacturer rankings.
